Elżbieta Senkus is a senior lecturer at the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy, Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. She graduated from the Medical University of Gdańsk in 1991 (diploma cum laude) and finished training in radiation oncology in 1998 and in medical oncology in 2004. In 1995 she obtained a PhD on brachytherapy of cervical cancer.
Her main scientific interest in breast cancer is molecular basis of disease in high-risk patients. She is the Faculty Member for the Breast Cancer of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and European School of Oncology (ESO). She is also involved in developing international guidelines for early and metastatic breast cancer as the Section Editor of the ESMO Guidelines Committee. Elżbieta Senkus is actively involved in clinical research, including national and international academic and industry-sponsored programs. She has coordinated 2 national phase III studies and currently is responsible for coordinating some international programs on a national basis.
Elżbieta Senkus serves as a Specialty Editor for the „The Breast” journal and has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including courses organized by the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), ESMO and ESO.
Elżbieta Senkus-Konefka is a member of ESMO, the
European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) and of the Mensa International. Since 2013 she has been a member of the Steering Committee of the EORTC Breast Cancer Group (BCG), of which she is now the Secretary-Elect. She has contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed publications, fifteen book chapters and was an editor of a textbook. Cumulated impact factor of publications: 427; 2479 citations, h-score 21 (Scopus database, viewed Sep. 17, 2017).
She has two sons of 22 and 20. Her hobbies include traveling, horse-back riding, skiing and designing jewellery.
